Drywood Termites

Drywood Termites

Drywood termites may live in small pieces of wood as long the wood has a little moisture and isn’t too hot or cold. They like to fly in and launch their colonies right in the wood. The best way to keep them at bay is to disguise your timber. Some things to keep in mind:

Drywood Termites Too Dry: Although keeping timber very dry will make it impossible for termites to live, this is impractical in South Florida and many other tropical and coastal areas where the natural humidity keeps the wood moist enough for drywood termites. Do what you can to keep timber as dry as possible.

Disguised: Remember: If termites can’t tell that it’s wood, they may not find it. Keep all exterior wood well coated with paint or varnish, especially the larger bits and at the joins and ends.  It only takes two drywood termites to launch an attack.  First, the female selects a likely place to live and then pairs up with a male. Then they begin tunneling.  Therefore, if you can make the wood unattractive, the termites won't even try.  A little preservative goes a long way because if the wood doesn’t taste good, the termites won’t stick around.

Inaccessible: If termites can't access the wood, they can't eat it.  So make sure to seal up all cracks and fissures because these make it easy for termites to invade your structure.  Cover all vents with fine mesh screening with about 0.8 to 1.0 mm openings.  Remember, you may need to increase the size of the vents to compensate for the restriction of air flow.  Always pay particular attention to the roof and wall frames.

Following these simple guidelines will greatly reduce your chances of becoming victims to termite infestations.  The best idea is to design your structure from the beginning to be completely termite resistant.  Keep in mind that regular inspections can locate termites before they perform major damage.

Tent Fumigations for Drywood Termites

eliminate drywood termite coloniesTent fumigations are the only proven way to eliminate drywood termite colonies.  The fumigant spreads into every crack and crevice of a structure, penetrating into the pores of the wood to reach the air termites breathe.  There’s no way termites can survive.

Most other exterminators only provide “spot treatments,” which only reach accessible areas in the property and produce partial or temporary results.  These unreliable methods are a gamble because the technicians, who are not state-certified fumigators, are likely to miss many of the termites’ points of entry. Too often, the termite problems resurface because the exterminators couldn’t reach all the hidden areas.

With tent fumigations, termites have no way out. At AL-FLEX, we won’t gamble with your home.  We use Vikane, the only proven Our tent fumigations cover each and every crack and crevice where termites hide, live and breed.  With tent fumigations, termites have no way out.

Why don’t most other exterminators offer tent fumigations?  First, tent fumigations require certified fumigators. Second, the fumigants are much more expensive.  Also, the spot treatments carry much less liability for the exterminators.

Many exterminators try to mislead customers into thinking that spot treatments work as effectively as tent fumigations.  When customers insist on tent fumigations, they hire sub-contractors to do the work.

At AL-FLEX, we don’t sub-contract any of our work.  Our clients can rest assured knowing that when they call us, one of our licensed fumigators will do the work and our company is completely accountable and liable for the results.  All our work is backed by our 100% Money-Back Guarantee for single-family home tent fumigations and our Commitment to Excellence.

We’re so confident in our tent fumigations that, in addition to the standard one-year guarantee that’s required by law, we provide an additional 90-day Money-Back Guarantee.  This means that we will refund 100% of your money if your drywood termite problems resurface within three months of our initial treatment.  After that, we’ll re-fumigate for free until your drywood termite problem is gone.
